Whimsical Wedding Photography – 7 Secrets To Help You Achieve It

Whimsical wedding photography is all about bringing the creative and slightly abstract world of imagination into the realm of reality via a creative eye. Here’s 7 things that should help a professional wedding photographer or engaged couple achieve a whimsical wedding photography shoot.

1. Movies Make Great Props – Think back to the early classic movies where people were starting to create imagery that combined their imagination with the real world. Like Marie Popins, The Wizard of Oz, or Aladdin. Use props that you’d find in these to help create an imaginary element to your images.

2. Comfort – My best photos will often happen half way through the wedding photography shoot if the couple isn’t relaxed and comfortable around me. Do what you can to meet your photographer before the wedding in a place where you can laugh a little together (engagement shoots are perfect for this). Don’t be shy about interacting with each other a little during the hours before the wedding or you’ll not be relaxed when you really want to be – in front of the camera on the wedding photography.

3. Confidence – Confidence in front of the camera is such a key. I’m not talking about becoming a catwalk model, but the confidence that lets you get a little creative and playful in front of the camera. You’ll get this through practice (again the engagement shoots are helpful) but also focusing on your partner rather than the photographer. Make them laugh, give them a push, smack ’em on the bum, climb stuff, pick each other up. The last person you want to be shy around is your photographer – or you’ll get boring ‘look and smile’ type photos.

4. Avoid the shopping mall – Unique or striking locations are a must have in my opinion. If you’re looking for wedding photography locations in Auckland check out my website below. Places with tunnels, cliffs, striking beaches, contrasting colours, anything that is a little out of the ordinary is a real key. I even find sneaking out for 5 minutes in the dark at the reception a great opportunity to get some creative wedding photos. There’s nothing like a starry night for a whimsical look.

5. Creative editing – Ensure your photographer has evidence of developing whimsical photos before you choose them. A lot is done in the hours and hours of editing after the wedding. The ‘almost unreal’ feel of whimsical photography is best drawn out via a slight tweak in lighting or contrast that comes in the editing suite.

6. Energy – Let’s face it, a wedding day is exhausting. So don’t burn out in front of the camera and miss your chance for whimsical creative photos when you’re looking amazing. Get yourself a good breakfast, don’t skip lunch and have someone organise a collection of snacks and energy drinks for the wedding party during the photo shoot.

7. Down Time – Tying in closely with number 6, but a little different. Whimsical photography comes through what I’d call structured and unstructured images. I’d ware any bridal party out (and myself) trying to force structured images throughout the shoot – “do this, do that, walk here, jump there”. Talk to your photographer about having some quality downtime DURING the photo shoot. 5 minutes on a rug just hanging out with your partner can create some of the most intimate whimsical photography available. It’s just a matter of choosing carefully where you have this downtime. It needs to be in a striking location and you need to be able to forget about the photographer.

Wedding Website: How a Wedding Website Can Help Organize Your Wedding

Weddings are a joyous occasion that should be cherished by everyone involved but can also be quite difficult to plan. One of the most difficult aspects about planning a wedding is staying organized. There is so much to do when planning a wedding that it is easy to become distracted, which can have a negative effect when planning a wedding. Creating a wedding website is a great way to help you stay organized when planning your website.

Communicate with the Wedding Party

One of the more challenging aspects of planning a wedding is staying in contact with the wedding party to let them know all of the details. All of the planning and preparations will be taking place so quickly, that is easy to forget to update a member of your wedding party about their responsibilities such as getting fitted for a tuxedo, bridesmaid dress, or hotel reservations. However, if you create a wedding website, you can update the website and tell your wedding party to check the website to see if they have something to do to help with your wedding plans. Many wedding websites are very easy to operate, making it very simple to keep all of your wedding part abreast of the current plans.

Announce your Wedding to the World

A wedding site is also a great way to announce your engagement to the world. While you will undoubtedly send a wedding announcement to your close friends and family, there may be some people that you forget about and do not inform that you are getting married. By creating a wedding website, you are able to announce to the world that you are engaged to get married and do not have to send everyone you know a wedding announcement. You can even update various social medial websites with a link to your wedding site to help spread the word about your upcoming nuptials.

Share Photos

Wedding sites are also an excellent way to share photos before and after your big day. A lot of couples will update their wedding site with pictures and background information about the bridal party to give their guests a little bit more information about their close friends that will be standing up in the wedding. Pictures of the bridal party will give a nice preview of what is in store for the upcoming wedding.

Also, many couples find it helpful to update their wedding site with information about the ceremony and reception locations as soon as they book a church and reception hall. If you have a lot of out of town guests attending your wedding, you will want to let them know the details of your wedding as soon as possible. Creating a wedding website will allow your guests to book their hotel room and flights well before their receive an invitation in the mail.

Benefits of Using Personal Wedding Websites

Wedding websites, also known as Wedsites are becoming more and more popular, but why use personal wedding websites, when they were never required in the past? Here is our top five reasons to use personal wedding websites:

Tell Your Story! Visitors to your website are going to be your wedding guests, these are the special people in your lives that you want to share your special day with. While most of them know you well, they may not know everything about your partner or even your love story. A wedding website is a great way to share this story with your guests using pictures and your own personal touch. A lot of couples like to post pictures of the proposal, the location of the proposal, the ring and write messages to each other or tell their own versions of their love story. Your personal wedding website, is a place dedicated to your relationship, your story.

Saves You Time. Once the invitations are out, before you know it, you’ll be getting phone calls for small details about your wedding day and the events surrounding it. You can use your wedding website to post things such as who is the bridal party, directions and maps to all the events, who will be hosting events such as the bridal shower and dates for those events. In the long run, this will save you time in answering all of these questions over and over.

Online RSVP. One of the most tedious things to manage when planning your wedding is those RSVP’s, especially if you’re having more than one event or having different guest lists for each event. On top of it all, you might also need to keep track of menu preferences and meal selections and accommodations for out of town guests. Once you get closer to your wedding dates, vendors will be asking you for numbers, confirmations and more. Tracking all of these numbers through a wedding website means you can access the numbers anytime, anywhere, and they are always up to date. You can also see at a glance who hasn’t responded and now days most wedding planning tools allow you to send emails to those who have not responded, asking them to respond. To make it easier for your guests you can include a link to your website so they can respond right when they receive the email.

Get your Guests Involved! Many wedding websites we’ve seen are now including all sorts of fun things to get guests more involved. Right from guests books to song requests for the reception to opinion polls to sneak peeks and anything else you can think of. You can put up questions and show running results about things like, how many kids should we have, where should we go on our honeymoon, etc You can also give out sneak peeks at the wedding cake or the bride’s shoes. You’ll enjoy reading the responses and so will your guests – it also gives you something to talk about at your reception.

Share Your Pictures. After the wedding, guests would love to see pictures, the website is a great way to post pictures creatively and share them not only with those who came to the wedding, but friends and relatives around the world who may not have been able to attend. These days a lot of wedding websites allow you to embed videos as well.
